Environmental Awareness and Education Campaign during Teaching Practice
An Environmental Awareness and Education Campaign was arranged on 23rd March, 2009 in Elementary Practicing GOVT High School with the cooperation of prospective teachers under the supervision of Miss Sadia Shaukat (PELI, 2008). The rationale behind this activity was to assess the Environmentally Responsible behavior of prospective teachers after getting knowledge about the EE (Environmental Education) campaigns in campus.
The purpose of this activity was to raise Environmental Awareness and Education in School students through prospective teachers. Before going to teaching practice, prospective teachers prepared environmental strategies and they implemented these strategies during their teaching practice. It was also interesting to see that how much prospective teachers are Environmentally Efficacious to communicate and implement the EE concepts to school students to bring about a change in their behavior regarding the protection of environment.
Firstly, prospective teachers delivered lecture to school students on the protection of environment and how they can SAVE ENVIRONMENT. They prepared school students to think about the environmental issues at global, country and school level. They also realized to school students about their leading role to overcome these environmental issues (pollution, deforestation, use of water and energy).Secondly prospective teachers developed story material pertaining to Environmental Awareness and shared with school students. School students inspired the efforts of prospective teachers and they also made paintings on SAVE ENVIRONMENT.
In addition, prospective teachers developed a sense of environmentally responsible behavior in school students through debates, poems and drawing competition on SAVE and GREEN Environment. School students read poems on Green Pakistan. All school students promised to play a significant and leading role in the protection of Community and School environment. They also planted some plants in school and took responsibility for their care.
At last, Miss Sadia Shaukat (PELI, 2008) appreciated the efforts of prospective teachers and thanked for their participation and cooperation for this Environmental Awareness Campaign.
I really appreciate the hectic efforts sadia Shaukat is making for the development and conservation of our environment. She is a dedicated lady to the national cause and this burning issue of the world. Sadia as an environmenatalist derserves a strong appluse from the private and public sector. She is making efforts to create awarness in students who are the future leaders for the protectioin and conservation of environment. She do it either by making poster competition, workshops or imparting of the importance of environment in the prospective teachers in the education university. She is a lead person rather a candle, enlightening more candles and spreading its light for the blinds who are not aware of the importance of this grave issue. I recommend her for some national award and also suggest her to be alumni of the month. I hope that the untiring efforts of this great lady on whome we all should proud is an asset to this national. I wish her all successes in her future endavours.
