The first project will involve our logging into our blog and creating an auto-biographical post.

Step 1: Log into the PELI blog

Scroll down and look for the Site Admin link at the bottom of the middle column.

Log into the blog using the username and password I provided to you in our email correspondence.

Step 2: Click on the Write tab

Step 3: Click inside the Title field to provide a name for your post

For our first endeavor, please enter your name and home town in the Title field.

Step 4: Write your life’s story!

The nice thing about blog’s are that you can always go back and add more information later. Feel free to give us as much information as you feel will help us get to know you and your profession.

Step 5: Spice it up!

After we get the basic text entered, it is important to know that there are a number of ways to tell a story. Blogs will allow you to include pictures, sounds and even video to enrich your ability to tell your own story. We’ve even included a way to map your journey using a technology known as “geo-tagging.”

Don’t worry too much about all of this yet, but know that it is possible!

As mentioned in class, here is a great resource to use as reference for your blogging endeavors:

http://blogfolio.kboan.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/05/wordpress.pdf

And if you would like to keep your own blog, give WordPress.com a try! It’s free and uses the same environment that we are using here in class.

We will be hosting a technology workshop in Lamson 102 from 1-5 p.m. on Thursday, July 5th. This workshop will include a tour of Lamson Library and its physical and virtual resources as well as project based tutorials which will reinforce the specific skills required by our faculty. We will also be providing additional information on usernames and passwords which are required to access our University’s electronic services and cluster computers.

Our technology workshop topics will include the following:

Blogging as reflective practice

Using Microsoft Word

Using a web-based survey tool – phpESP

Using Microsoft Excel

Using Microsoft PowerPoint

Our flow will begin with blogging and move into MS Word. We will then explore the web-based survey tool as a critical component of our assessment toolkit. The results of this tool can then be exported as a file than can be brought into MS Excel for analysis. Lastly we will explore MS PowerPoint as a means by which to present your findings.

Resources:
